Someone else is pregnant

Our friends the Daggetts are pregnant. They are very happy and we are thrilled for them. It does make us want to be pregnant again though. Sarah is really looking forward to it and so am I. We know it will happen in God’s time and not ours. Please pray for us and our young adult friends who are trying to conceive. it’ll be a new life stage when all of us have kids. How exciting.

Benchwarmers movie review

This was a good “rental movie”. Which is to say that it was an enjoyable hour and a half but I am glad I didn’t spend 10 bucks at the theatre to see it. No one will confuse this movie with any of my favorite comedys such as Tommy Boy or Christmas vacation but it is good for a few laughs. I must preface this by saying that I find David Spade very funny and I also like the “Napolean Dynamite” character as well. In the end it actually has a good take home message. All in all, thsi movie was just about what I expected it to be.

nothin’ but a good time

Last night I attended my first Poison concert.  It was amazing! It was held at an outdoor theatre with a huge hill.  The place was packed.  Kyle, Sheri, 12 friends from work and I were among the thousands of people there.  I guess Poison sells out the D every summer.  They played all there old hits and I was singing along to all of them including “every rose has its thorn”.  It was such a good show, they really did a good job incorporating video, pyro, etc.  It is their 20th anniversary tour, which is another sign that I am old.  Look what the cat dragged in was the first cassette I ever owned.  I was only 11 but I remember rockin’ out to it.  I am definately planning on seeing them again next summer.  It was awesome!

random move

Our neighbors moved out of the apartment below us. Sarah noticed a Uhaul Sat morning and they were gone. We wonder what happened because they never mentioned leaving. We weren’t great friends but we had each other over once so we are suprised by the lack of a good bye. I hope everything is Ok with them. we are now the only ones in our section of the building. That’s fine with us ( no noise, less mess, etc. ) We just need to put in another 11 months before we buy our first house. I’m not sure where that house will be but this is definately our last apartment.

kickball league

I just joined an adult kickball league with a couple of people from work. It’s a blast. My games will be on Sunday evenings so they really won’t interfere with anything else. We lost our first 2 games but we had a lot of fun. It feels good to be out doing something active. I’ll keep you all posted as to how my team makes out. I’m pumped.

Spiritual Gifts

The bible list many spiritual gifts in both Romans and Corinthians. I have long thought that this is far from a complete list. For me, any gift or talent that one chooses to use for God is a spiritual gift. I received affirmation this summer at Sr high camp as to what one of mine is. I relate really well to Sr high kids, I always have. Likely because as Sarah says ” I am a kid at heart”. Since I am able to relate to them I can provide ministry where others can not. As I get older I realize that this is something I shouldn’t take for granted. God has called me to provide ministry to this age group which is often overlooked. Sarah and I are exploring (with other young adults)the possibility of taking over Sr high activities at our congregation. We are excited to see what comes about as a result. I don’t mention any of this to make myself look good but to give praise to God for what he has given me. What spiritual gifts has God given you? Have you praised him for them? It has been a very wonderful experience for me to realize this spiritual gift inside. It is empowering to know God chooses to use all of us in such awesome ways. I pray you will feel empowered in your own giftedness.

my new MACBOOK

I am happy to say I am writing this blog from my new MACBOOK laptop computer. I just purchased it last week. Actually, St John Oakland hospital purchased it for me. ( I used my annual expense account which is part of my benefits plan) While I am not an expert at using it, I really like it so far. I love making movies and DVDs using the programs it comes with. I even got a free iPOD nano and printer with mail in rebates. Wireless internet is available to me at work and here at the Troy public library which is genius. The Allen house will certianly need wireless access at some point. It’s been fun for me to leap forward into the technological age.

baptism

I just had the honor of baptizing my third person on Friday. I think it may be my favorite sacrament. I love all that it represents and the fact that it is a “once in a lifetime” event makes it even more special. There is nothing more exciting than witnessing someone make the decision to follow Christ. It’s a humbling experience to participate in. Each one that I have done is special to me. I love doing my part to live out the “Great Commission.” All glory goes to God for He is the one who really moved in their hearts. I was just fortunate enough to be around when it happened.
