movie review: karate kid quadrilogy
Saturday while i was moonlighting I had the chance to watch a couple of the karate kid movies. I received the boxed set last year for Christmas. I had forgotten how much I liked them. I’d even go as far as to say the original is one of my favorites. It’s an uplifting classic story with cheesy karate. You could say it is the perfect 80’s movie. The second one where they travel to Miyagi’s home village is also very good. The third movie is in my opinion the worst of all 4. At this point Daniel was chubby and the story was much weaker than the previous two. It should never have been made. I was surprised that I didn’t hate the Next karate kid as much as I remember. For those of you who don’t remember they made a movie starring Hilary Swank in Daniel’s role as Miyagi’s student. I did find it funny that many of the “high school students” in the movie seemed even older than Luke Perry did on 90210. If you haven’t seen these films in a while, give them a second look.
Benchwarmers movie review
This was a good “rental movie”. Which is to say that it was an enjoyable hour and a half but I am glad I didn’t spend 10 bucks at the theatre to see it. No one will confuse this movie with any of my favorite comedys such as Tommy Boy or Christmas vacation but it is good for a few laughs. I must preface this by saying that I find David Spade very funny and I also like the “Napolean Dynamite” character as well. In the end it actually has a good take home message. All in all, thsi movie was just about what I expected it to be.
I like Joey….
I am confessing to being one of the apparently few people who likes the show Joey. No it will never be friends, but I really enjoy it still. I purchased season one last week and I honestly don’t see why this show failed. Joey is great and the rest of the cast is funny too. His agent ( MILF from American Pie) steals most of the scenes she is in. I read that they have just filmed the last 4 episodes but NBC may not even air them. I hope they at least release them as part of a season 2 DVD set. I feel like NBC gave up on this show too quickly. Joey averaged 11.7 million viewers prior to its move to Tuesday where it got destroyed by American Idol. It’s not like My Name is Earl is a rating juggernaut (46th last new episode). You can’t tell me it isn’t better than some of the horrible shows they put on now. On the last episode they aired Joey hooked up with his neighbor (he also did so in real life helping to prove Alli’s theory about actors and romantic roles ). I was hoping that might lead to a wedding/Friends reunion. I guess that’ll never happen now. At least a visit from Chandler would have been nice.
